Lexar Media Introduces New High-speed JumpDrive(tm) For Personal Data Storage
and Transfer
FREMONT, Calif., July 18, 2002 -- Lexar Media, Inc. (Nasdaq: LEXR),
a leading designer, developer and marketer of award-winning high-performance
digital media and accessories, has begun global shipments for JumpDrive(tm),
a new high-speed portable USB flash drive for consumers. With a solid-state
architecture and embedded Lexar Media patented controller technology, JumpDrive
provides fast and reliable storage and transfer of digital text, images and
audio and data files. Ultra-small JumpDrive -- roughly the size of a person's
thumb -- is available in 64 and 128MB memory capacities with manufacturer's
suggested list $79.99 and $119.99.
"JumpDrive is a portable flash-based storage device built from the ground up
using Lexar Media proprietary high-speed controller technology and built-in
USB connectivity," said Eric Stang, president and CEO, Lexar Media. "Overcoming
the drawbacks of the floppy disk, JumpDrive fulfils the growing consumer need
to store, transfer and carry larger data files in a secure and convenient manner.
This product propels Lexar Media into an entirely new market, building on the
availability of USB technology in millions of computers worldwide."
JumpDrive is a practical new way for students, business people and anyone who
uses more than one computer to store, transfer, carry and secure data.
Store - JumpDrive is a dependable, solid-state flash device offering
maximum storage capabilities in a compact size. The 128MB JumpDrive can hold
the same amount of information as 90 floppy disks.
Transfer - JumpDrive provides cross-platform operability and offers an easier, more convenient medium for
transferring data than CD burning. The device is USB mass storage compliant, making it plug and play for most
modern operating systems including Windows 2000, Me, XP or Mac OS 8.6, 9 or X; a driver is available for Windows
98 at www.lexar.com.
Carry - JumpDrive is small, lightweight and designed to function as a
key chain, conveniently allowing users to carry essential data in their pocket,
briefcase or clipped to their backpack.
Secure - JumpDrive has a built-in data write protection light that blinks
while files are being written to, or transferred from, the device. JumpDrive
also features a recessed write-protect switch to further guard against accidental
data erasure.
